But the biggest changes are in the section of the gallery and in the section In the World.

In the section in the World (31 January) we inserted a world map that will enable the location geographical provinces. In short it will be possible to find on the map where is located the Provincial House of a province as determined in a bubble and it will display the address and file photos and news already present in the site and watching this Province.
Another novelty is the tag cloud. Words that are only displayed on the Home Page and you will be able to publish the same or suggest. The more we read a story that contains keywords, the more they will be large and visible and we will capture your interest.

The few Canadian soldiers present on the soil of France at the end of the "Phony war" left it in mid-June 1940, when the French army decided to capitulate.

It was not until August 1942 for an assault was attempted in Dieppe during which over 4000 of us landed again on French soil. After the failure of the raid, only 6 June 1944 a Canadian division set foot on French soil.

But some French-Canadian soldiers began to fight in France well before D-Day sent there several months before the day of the invasion to serve as instructors and advisors to the military resistance, they were almost all descended by parachute at night in various parts of France.

The price paid gives an idea of the dangers faced by these men. Indeed, some 60 to 70 Canadians who have voluntarily accepted this mission, only 18 have survived. Most, if not all, have been decorated by France grateful for the Croix de Guerre with palm and the Resistance Medal.

In the coming weeks we will publish a picture of some of them under the title Soldiers from the shadows. latter capping the chapter which I have spent in 1998 in the third volume of my Unsung heroes, published by Editions du Meridien. These texts, abstracts and enriched some new data that will form the core of these chronicles.

How do you become a secret agent?

"By being a little crazy, because it is a very safe way to commit suicide" replied Lucien Dumais, one of the best known of them, a reporter The Press of in 1991.

As Gabriel Chartrand him as a hero of the shadows and colored unionist brother Michel Chartrand, "in the army when it wants to send you somewhere, it is better to say yes because, eventually, if you say no, they can you send in a worse place. "

Major Paul-E. Labelle

I had the privilege, there are twenty years to travel to Normandy together Major Paul-Emile Labelle, one of the survivors of these survivors share paratroopers behind the lines.

young lieutenant of the Regiment de Maisonneuve, Labelle had joined the regiment in England in September 1942 but shortly after he was transferred to the Royal 22 e Regiment. In 1943, he participated with the regiment in every major battle of the Italian campaign.

Then, in April 1944, he was sent to North Africa where it is prepared for a mission while extremely dangerous, promoted Captain meanwhile, was parachuted in Vaucluse. Only Canadian in this sector, Labelle was appointed deputy commander of the departmental staff of the French Forces of the Interior (FFI) in the region and representing U.S. and British governments with the French Resistance.

Chief of Mission, he conducted three French officers, instructors strategies and methods of preparation of weapons and combat teams organized into small groups to harass the enemy relentlessly, and a thousand ways and that, throughout the region Vaucluse. Military Adviser, Labelle should address itself claims of weapons and ammunition in Algiers who shipped them by air, often four or five devices at once.

After the liberation of France, Labelle was promoted to Major, August 20, 1944, and ordered the French army, with the following quote: "Senior Officer exceptional value. Broken Cappillaries On Upper Lip

Sr. Marie wrote ... Merry Christmas

We are fine after a week although shaken, even if we went out every day.

A few days ago: The military and police apparatus is impressive, both in hardware and in the number of people deployed everywhere.
The portraits of the former president had gone. Wards are also kept by militias that protect the spontaneous population against looters. In our passage, we see 7 men, hands bound by whatever means, kneeling against a wall and guarded by men until the police.

Yesterday: "Ali Baba and left the 40 thieves remained," it said in the newspaper. The thieves are members of the presidential family, arrested one after the other and treasure back to the state and citizens.
Tunisia is the same. The tongues are untied and everyone is talking about. People no longer fear and tell us about their oppression, their mistrust of each vis-à-vis others. Now they live national solidarity and immense hope.
After anesthesia by the national government, the newspapers publish anything that can be written, drawn, seriousness and jokes. A sample: "All Tunisians want the next president's chair or in kind tefal, for there not stick."
This morning I stopped by the police. Reason: he wanted to talk and I learned their servitude as an agent in the service of oppression.
Somehow I feel like a lucky having been able to live this moment in history, a people freed from oppression.
Since yesterday we live three days of national mourning for victims the revolution of jasmine, they are estimated at a hundred.

Today Sunday
At the cathedral we were still around 80 people to mass at 11 am, during a demonstration outside in full swing. There are daily, even inside the medina now. As one newspaper wrote three days ago "for the Tunisian show became a hobby." They scream and do harm to anyone. Police reinforcements in large, leaning against the houses around watching. Some even wear a red ribbon armbands as a sign of unity with the people. A soldier is on his tank cannon and looks well. The grand staircase of the cathedral serves as a podium for the spectators who sit many. People who come to pray using the back door. Helicopters rotate from morning to evening.
All parishes in the diocese now pray for the victims - more than a hundred - the Tunisian revolution underway. Now all remains to be done, elections are coming. Nothing is won. Thank you for your prayers. I embrace each and
good feast of St. Francis de Sales

Based on the personal initiative of author and teacher Vincent Sebastian, the blog " Quebec and the Second World War " made its debut on the big painting a year ago, January 11, 2010, in order to " serve as rallying point for all those near and far, adding their small stone to build the Military History of Quebec French and why not all French-speaking Canadian .

Its creation arose from the observation that since the disappearance of Hector-Fabre Chair of History, University of Quebec at Montreal in December 2008, there were few venues History Quebec military.

In its first year of existence, the site's mandate is to promote a multidisciplinary perspective, social history, cultural, political and military during the Second Quebec World War to the general public, students and academia. His mission: to inform readers increasingly numerous and curious to learn more about a lesser known era in the history of Quebec.

Have we achieved our goal, given the limited resources that are ours? Difficult to judge how self-evident. But far from us the idea to pretend that we are the only foster the emergence of the military history of francophone Quebec!

Certainly, a year after its inception the site is still based on personal initiative, volunteerism, and especially the sense of sharing of those who lend their pen, or more than one dozen regular or casual employees. All were used to "add their small stone "in building knowledge of this period in our history.

More than 88 texts, many previously unpublished, have been published. These have attracted over 20 comments. According to statistics dated 11 January 2011, the site received over 10,125 hits since April 18.

Two additions would mark the second year of existence.

First, the site will soon publish texts addressing the First World War in 2014 which we commemorate the 100 th birthday, while pursuing the dissemination of texts on World War II, including a series on "Soldiers of the shadow " , these French-Canadian soldiers who served behind enemy lines as secret agents between 1939 and 1945.

To illustrate the gradual expansion of his remarks, the site will soon be renamed "Quebec and the World Wars.
Secondly, the site will soon have a gallery of photographs that visitors will see while being invited to enrich from their own collection.

Headings "Recent" and "Internet Resources" will continue to inform readers of new books published in history military and refer them to relevant sites.

We invite all those who, in addition to employees who have already contributed, want to join us to connect with Sébastien Vincent and Frederick Smith.

We also invite readers to comment on the various texts.

meantime, we encourage all those who wish to explore these conflicts. We will be more awareness Military History of Quebec, the better!
