Based on the personal initiative of author and teacher Vincent Sebastian, the blog " Quebec and the Second World War " made its debut on the big painting a year ago, January 11, 2010, in order to " serve as rallying point for all those near and far, adding their small stone to build the Military History of Quebec French and why not all French-speaking Canadian .
Its creation arose from the observation that since the disappearance of Hector-Fabre Chair of History, University of Quebec at Montreal in December 2008, there were few venues History Quebec military.
In its first year of existence, the site's mandate is to promote a multidisciplinary perspective, social history, cultural, political and military during the Second Quebec World War to the general public, students and academia. His mission: to inform readers increasingly numerous and curious to learn more about a lesser known era in the history of Quebec.
Have we achieved our goal, given the limited resources that are ours? Difficult to judge how self-evident. But far from us the idea to pretend that we are the only foster the emergence of the military history of francophone Quebec!
Certainly, a year after its inception the site is still based on personal initiative, volunteerism, and especially the sense of sharing of those who lend their pen, or more than one dozen regular or casual employees. All were used to "add their small stone "in building knowledge of this period in our history.
More than 88 texts, many previously unpublished, have been published. These have attracted over 20 comments. According to statistics dated 11 January 2011, the site received over 10,125 hits since April 18.
Two additions would mark the second year of existence.
First, the site will soon publish texts addressing the First World War in 2014 which we commemorate the 100 th birthday, while pursuing the dissemination of texts on World War II, including a series on "Soldiers of the shadow " , these French-Canadian soldiers who served behind enemy lines as secret agents between 1939 and 1945.
To illustrate the gradual expansion of his remarks, the site will soon be renamed "Quebec and the World Wars.
Secondly, the site will soon have a gallery of photographs that visitors will see while being invited to enrich from their own collection.
Headings "Recent" and "Internet Resources" will continue to inform readers of new books published in history military and refer them to relevant sites.
