"Desertification is a process of land degradation in arid, mostly, and causing desertification to non-desert land.
Desertification is the consequence of interactions between climate variations, particularly due to the greenhouse effect, and various human activities such as overgrazing and deforestation. With global warming, desertification has increased. Most continents are affected by this phenomenon but in arid that the consequences are most visible, as in Africa and Asia. In 2000, 70% of drylands are subject to desertification.
The consequences of desertification are numerous. It mostly affects biodiversity plant and may remove some herbs or food while causing economic difficulties for the countries concerned.
Desertification is a major obstacle to rural development and raising living standards of people in affected areas (CIRAD, 2008)
actions to fight against desertification are varied: the information and communication with local populations, soil protection, protection of biodiversity, diversification of agricultural activities, and of course reforestation. "
